Community-based study results:
Each year, seizures injure 10 percent of people with epilepsy

A study using data on 819 people from the Tasmanian Epilepsy Registry found lifetime seizure-related injury rates of 43.1% and annual rates of 9.9%. Head injuries and water immersion were the most frequent dangers, and the home was the most common injury environment. Even one seizure in a year increased the risk for injury. The study was published Feb 5 online in Epilepsia.

A Life Electric melds stories, statistics and commentary on the global reach of epilepsy

To coincide with International Epilepsy Day on February 11, Scots production company Storm Features released A Life Electric, an online experience that aims to increase epilepsy awareness. The website features 51 “chapters” about epilepsy and its treatment, as well as interviews with professionals who treat the condition and people with epilepsy, such as powerlifter Jessica Marie McCallum (pictured left). IBE provided support for the project.
