ILAE Surveys: PNES, Depression, Congresses | In memoriam Frederick Andermann | Spotlight on Uganda | ILAE Milestone | Future Congresses and deadlines
ILAE is seeking your opinions
ILAE has sent several surveys recently on a range of topics. Please check to make sure you have responded to those surveys of interest to you so that your views may be recorded, and please pass the information to interested colleagues.
Psychogenic Nonepileptic Seizures (PNES)
The PNES Task Force on Psychogenic Nonepileptic Seizures (PNES) of the ILAE Commission on Psychiatry is sampling views of clinicians from around the world on the use of suggestive seizure induction in the diagnosis of PNES. The term “suggestive seizure induction” (or “provocation techniques”) covers diagnostic techniques using any form of suggestion, usually during EEG or video-EEG, to trigger a seizure when the diagnosis of PNES is considered. This could include verbal suggestion, intravenous injection of placebo, suggestion based on hyperventilation or photic stimulation or a combination of techniques.
This survey will inform the development of ILAE guidance on the video-EEG recording of patients in whom a diagnosis of PNES is considered. It can be completed even if no defined protocol is applied in your unit, or if suggestive seizure induction is not used in your unit. Completion should take no more than 10 minutes.
Congress Evaluation
Please provide your feedback to help ILAE provide high quality scientific and educational meetings and career development opportunities for the epilepsy community.
Survey to look at barriers to mental health care
The Psychology Task Force of ILAE’s Medical Therapies Commission has been charged with taking steps to improve global mental health care for people with epilepsy. This study aims to inform the direction and priorities of the Task Force by examining health care providers’ current practical experiences, barriers and unmet needs of addressing psychiatric comorbidities in their epilepsy patients.
