ILAE Classification and Definition of Epilepsy Syndromes
The ILAE Nosology and Definitions Task Force has published four position papers on the classification and definition of epilepsy syndromes in hopes of facilitating clinical recognition of epilepsy syndromes, in order to hone high-yield diagnostic investigations, select optimal therapy, inform risk of comorbidities, and provide more accurate prognosis regarding epilepsy outcome. The ILAE position papers are divided into:
- Syndromes with onset in neonates and infants (up to age 2 years)
- Syndromes that onset in childhood
- Syndromes that may begin at a variable age (pediatric and adult patients)
- Idiopathic Generalized Epilepsies
A translated list of syndromes is available in Arabic, Chinese, French, Greek, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Spanish with more languages coming soon.
Ukraine Crisis Response
In response to the situation in Ukraine, we have developed a new Crisis Response page in the Patient Care section. This webpage shares materials to help patients with epilepsy affected by this current war, as well as news regarding ILAE actions for support. We plan to grow this space into a useful resource applicable to support care and treatment for people with epilepsy in emergencies worldwide.
Intersectoral Global Action Plan on Epilepsy and Other Neurological Disorders
The 75th World Health Assembly takes place on 22-28 May 2022, and World Health Organization (WHO) Member States will be voting on the adoption of the draft Intersectoral Global Action Plan on Epilepsy and Other Neurological Disorders (IGAP).
ILAE is grateful for the attention to the needs of people with epilepsy on part of the WHO. With support, the IGAP will help to strengthen the prevention, detection, care, treatment, and equal opportunities for people with epilepsy and other neurological disorders worldwide.
Nursing Section: Call for members
ILAE is excited to welcome the Nursing Section to our community! Membership is open to all types of nurses who work in epilepsy care worldwide.
